چکیده

Palladium has a face-centered-cubic sublattice. Hydrogen atoms partially fill the octahedral holes to form PdH,. The fraction of interstitial sites occupied is dependent on the plating conditions, temperature and the partial pressure of hydrogen, etc. Although hydrogen atoms only occupy the interstitial’ sites, the sublattice of metal atoms in the PdH, is larger and simply an expansion of the parent metal lattice. PdH, undergoes expansion or contraction as the palladiumhydrogen ratio changes.

Development of Palladium-Alloy Membranes for Hydrogen Separation and Purification

This paper summarizes R&D activities and progress at NORAM Engineering and the University of British Columbia (UBC) on preparation and testing of thin palladium-based membranes and their applications. Most of these activities were carried out internally at NORAM, some jointly with UBC and their spin-off company, Membrane Reactor Technology (MRT) through a wide range of projects. Key results out...

Novel Electroless Plating of Ruthenium for Fabrication of Palladium-Ruthenium Composite Membrane on PSS Substrate and Its Characterization

This paper focused on a novel method of electroless plating ruthenium (Ru) on solid or porous substrates like porous stainless steel (PSS) discs or ceramic tubes. A novel complexing plating bath of Ru was developed. It is proven that Ru can be deposited directly on these substrates by the bath at a temperature of 328 K and strong alkaline environment. TGA, SEM, EDX and XRD confirmed the success...

Determination of thermodynamic parameters of hydrogen permeation of palladium membrane for considering the effect of stainless steel support

A palladium composite membrane was prepared by electroless plating on oxidized porous stainless steel support (ox-PSS). Hydrogen permeation flux through this composite membrane was measured in the temperature range of 574-674K and the pressure difference of two sides of membrane up to 90kPa. A simplified resistance model was employed to analyze the permeation behavior of hydrogen through Pd/ox-...

Palladium composite membrane with high reversibility of CO2 poisoning

A palladium membrane was prepared using the electroless plating technique (ELP) for the separation and purification of hydrogen from a gas mixture. Depending on operating conditions, hydrogen flux from the membrane was in the range of 0.012-0.023 mol.m-2.s-1. The membrane performance in the presence of CO2 was investigated. The results of the GC analysis showed that at a feed concentration of 1...

Hydrogen Absorption/Desorption in Palladium and Metal Hydrides

Electrical generation from hydrogen, the element with higher energy density per unit mass, requires appropriated materials that can be used in its storage [1]. Palladium, with a high capacity to dissociate, absorb and desorb gaseous hydrogen, has been widely used for hydrogen storage [2], in separation membranes [3] and catalytic hydrogenation [4]. The present DFT calculations on clusters model...
